During my recent stay at Ambrose House & Café in Montreal, I was thoroughly impressed by the cleanliness and tranquility of the establishment. Nestled on a surprisingly quiet street in downtown, the location offers a peaceful retreat while still being conveniently close to the city's attractions. The room was impeccably clean and comfortable, providing a serene environment that ensured a restful night's sleep. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, contributing to a relaxed yet efficient atmosphere throughout my stay.Additionally, the on-site café was a delightful bonus, offering a cozy spot to enjoy delicious breakfast options. The combination of a clean, quiet room and the charming café made my stay at Ambrose House & Café truly enjoyable.I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a clean and peaceful accommodation in Montreal.Special Shout-out to Ahmed who welcomed me at the reception, he was very helpful and professional.

So my girlfriend always go to this café and says she loves it a lot. Unfortunately, when she went last week and the usual barista wasn't there, a male barista was very rude with her. She ordered her usual--latte with vanilla syrup and oat milk--, but the week prior the usual barista stated that they didn't have vanilla syrup and she offered simple syrup instead. So, she explained to the barista KINDLY she'll have it with simple syrup as she assumed that you guys may not have had it last week. She told me your barista that week interacted with her very rudely. Please know that this interaction is not necessary.

Clean, comfortable, and budget-friendly. My partner and I came to Montreal for a concert at the Bell Center, and this hotel was only a 10-minute walk and in a perfect quiet location. We would definitely stay here again.

This is definitely a place I would chose to stay again and again. The staff are so incredibly friendly with the guests of the hotel and the people who drop by for a coffee. Honestly I feel like some of the bad reviews are a little unjust and I'll explain why. The style is vintage, cute, has character and gives the comfort of home away from home. You have to remember with older places there is plenty of character and if your like me then this is something you will love. My unit was super clean and well kept.

I booked my room months in advance. About a week before, I got an email stating there is no elevator and there will be no window in my room but there is a sky light. When I arrived, the room was on the top floor of very, very steep stairs (stairs are not the problem...the lack of notice about the stairs AND how steep they were was an issue. Thank goodness i do not have mobility issues), and the sky light was nothing short of disgusting It was brown light because it looked like bugs were living in it. I paid full price for this room, which I feel was annoying. This room was definitely not as advertised, when I booked it. It was also tremendously small. Also, would not be an issue if i knew beforehand. But when you pay for a full price for the room and you actually get half a room, it's an issue. It also had a very musky smell. Not pleasant, at all.The gal at the front desk/Cafe was sweet. I didn't catch her name but she was extremely nice.Location is perfect.I think you need to adjust your advertising to what you are actually renting out instead of misleading people.

We stayed at the Ambrose for one night. We found the room adequate, an interesting mix of old-fashioned shabby-chique and upscale. The bathroom was quite nice, but the bed may as well have been on ice with how prone to rolling it was with the smallest motion. The view was nice, and the air conditioning unit was very effective. The quirky layout of the hotel is fun, with it having spiral staircases with alcoves along the way up. We found the service fairly taciturn when we very rarely spoke to the concierge, but that’s fine. Almost everything can be done on your own using the key pickup system. The cafe space downstairs was nice, as was the small patio outside. Parking was a little ambiguous; we just parked on the very steep Stanley street and hoped for the best that we would not be ticketed, and we were not.

Stayed there over the Victoria Day weekend. Comfortable and clean. However, while waiting for Lea at the front desk Saturday morning around 6:30 a.m., I shortly noticed a shadow behind me while facing the front window in the café side.I thought it was Lea and ran after it when it disappeared in the hallway, only to realize it was a dead end exit and that the entity was way too tall to be Lea and that she wouldn't just vanish this way. However, since I wear earplugs to sleep, I couldn't testify about any nocturnal activities during my two nights stay.🫣So yeah, you definitely have 👻😱👽!!

The area was nice and convenient but staff were not helpful and hotel room was not very clean. The Expedia page wrote that there was on site covered parking, however when I contacted the hotel about this they said that I had to park on the street and I had to have reserved a parking spot beforehand which was not made clear on the booking page. Furthermore, there was no parking available on the street around the hotel. When I went into ask the staff about parking when I got there, the girl was very rude and was not helpful at all. Lastly, there were blood stains on the bathtub edge and floor leading into the bathroom. The sheets were also pretty old and tattered.

Perfect place to stay in Montréal. The hotel is cozy and quaint, and the cafe downstairs was the perfect place to grab a drink/breakfast and relax. It is conveniently located in walking distance of McGill University, the Notre Dame Basilica, Museum of Fine Arts, and countless other iconic MTL attractions. Would surely stay again!

Great little boutique hotel for the price and location. Very quiet during our stay. No parking available unless arranged in advance.

Had a great stay. Rooms were clean and quiet. The Cafe downstairs is very convenient. Best part is the location. Close walkable distance to lots of amenities and the US embassy.

The specific room I had was just large enough to fit a bed and desk. I guess it's fine if you're not planning on spending any time in the room, but it's pretty claustrophobic if you spend more than an hour awake inside. I'm pretty sure other rooms in the hotel are larger than mine and only slightly more expensive, so perhaps those would be a better experience.

A wonderful, non-traditional hotel experience, staying at the Ambrose House was delightful. The room we stayed in was very spacious, very clean, and very charming. The cafe was a major bonus.

I'm almost reluctant to post a review because I selfishly don't want this amazing secret to get out. If I could give Ambrose House more than 5 stars, I would.Every part of our experience was perfect. The room we stayed in (the family room) reminded us of flats in France, so spacious and with loads of original details. We had everything we needed (towels, toiletries, extra bedding,) and the employee who helped us was absolutely phenomenal. The cafe is absolutely charming and the coffee is fantastic, the location couldn't be more convenient, and there was plenty of free street parking available.I cannot overstate how much we loved staying at Ambrose, and we're already planning on next trip.

I kept wondering “why’s it so cheap? what’s the catch?” And there was none. Clean, beautiful rooms, great location and a cozy cafe downstairs. I will only ever stay here when I come to Montreal. My ONLY complaint and it’s a small one is the bed is on rollers so it shifts around whenever you get on and off the bed and the pillows fall down the crack.

This location does not have parking available. You have to drive the block to find one. A lot of one way streets. There is also no elevator. There’s at least 8 stairs to get to the door. Then 6(?) stairs to get to the first floor. At least 20 to get to the 2nd floor. Room was very clean, even had a fireplace in it. If I could have figured out how to work it I would have used it. There were no wash clothes in the room. Also no phone. I called for assistance and there was no answer.
